I am an OFSTED registered childminder based in Lydiard Millicent and due to expanding my business I am looking to take on two apprentices to assist me in looking after the children in my care. The apprentices will be required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week at alternating times (these can be discussed at interview).
Whilst working alongside me they will have the opportunity to complete their NVQ L2/L3 in Childcare and Early Years Education. You will be required to help me attend to the daily care routines of all the children and plan activities to meet their developmental needs in line with their ages and stages of development.
I am looking for someone who is passionate about working with children and committed to helping them achieving better outcomes. You will need to be able to use you initiative and have a ‘muck in’ attitude. You will need to be discrete and respect confidentiality and be sensitive in discussing children's progress and needs with parents/carers. The right persons will be fun loving, warm, kind natured and approachable. They will also need to have good morals and manners in order to be a good role model. A firm but fair approach is key to set and maintain boundaries. The right candidate will be reliable, a good time keeper and able to communicate appropriately with children, colleagues and parents and adapt communication styles accordingly.
You will receive a full induction to my setting where I will outline your role and responsibilities, train you on the Early Years Foundations Stage and how to carry out observations, next steps and plan for individual childrens needs.
The apprenticeship will be supported by Swindon College and will require you to attend some evening workshops. GCSE C grade C or above in English, Maths and ICT are desirable but not essential.
An enhanced DBS checks must be carried out and you must be willing to carry out First Aid training, Food Hygiene AND Safeguarding Children training. There are many childcare related courses and training available for you to attend if you wish to do so and I will support you to increase your knowledge and build up your professional portfolio in childcare. References will also be required.
To assist in providing a safe and stimulating environment where children can learn and develop.To understand and work within the guidelines of the EYFS.To carry out observations on children and link these to the EYFS (early years foundation stage).To plan next steps for children to help them progress.To record a daily register and daily diaries for the children.To prepare snack and lunches and encourage good hygiene and personal care.To change nappies and assist children in potty training and/or attending the toilet.To liaise with parents and other professionals, regarding a child’s developmental needs, as and when appropriate, to ensure their individual needs are met.To work in line with my settings policies and adhere to local and national legislation.To encourage positive behaviour and set high expectations for the children and ensure any unacceptable behaviour is dealt with appropriately and discussed with parents.To comply with legislation covering health and safety, food hygiene, fire and planning requirements and to keep appropriate records with due regard to confidentiality.To interact appropriately with children and communicate appropriately using positive language.To help to maintain a clean and safe environment, this does include some cleaning duties. To carryout First Aid, Food Hygiene and Safeguarding training, plus be willing to undergo any other training outlined as compulsory by the authorities; or that is beneficial to your professional development or that will benefit the children you work with.To plan stimulating activities and help the children learn through play; read stories; lead discussions at circle time; lead singing and music times. Be willing to play outside in all weathers.
